Historic Centre

The famous Algonquin tribe lived along the then, Kitchesipppi river in the Westboro area. The river is now called the Ottawa River. The Ottawa City Ward is named Kitchesippi to honour that history. Westboro became a critical area for the British Military in the 1900th century. They used the Ottawa River and what became Richmond Road as the principal route out of Ottawa to the West. Westboro remained a village until 1949, when it joined Ottawa. Also, in that era, Main street was renamed Churchill Avenue in honour of Winston Churchill. When the streetcar started coming to the area, many people from Ottawa opened cottages; some of these buildings can still be seen. Westboro has proudly built on its fascinating history and is ready to grow and develop even more.
